Crystals on the Dining Table

The table has a job before 7 p.m.

Guests need space for elbows and a dish that is actually hot. A tall quartz tower in the middle of that is a conversation about your collection, not about the food.

What works

A sphere on a stand, low enough to see over.

A small cluster on a ceramic dish, points turned in.

A compact tree only on a wide table, off-center, never between two people talking.

One object. A candle or a small vase can share the tray. A second mineral usually cannot.

What does not

Desk towers. Salt lamps. Loose tumbled bowls that roll toward the gravy.

Anything you would be angry to find with salad dressing on it.

Before the meal

Move the stone to the sideboard or the kitchen counter in one move. That is not a failure of styling. That is a table that works.

After dishes, put it back if you still want the room to look finished from the sofa.

Light

Dining rooms are often overhead cans. Choose a piece that still reads as stone in flat light: cluster, darker sphere, tree with color. Clear towers disappear under a ceiling fixture.

Care

Wipe the dish. Food air is oil air. Do not let the cluster live next to the vinegar bottle. See the care post.
