Crystals on a Fall Mantel

A mantel is a shelf people walk past, not a tray they sit at.

Whatever you put up there has to read from the sofa and survive a shoulder, a holiday card lean, and if the fireplace works, rising heat.

What works in October

A citrine tower or small tree, if the shelf is deep enough that it cannot be bumped.

A framed landscape at eye line—the picture format belongs here more than a grove.

One cluster on a wide end, not five towers in a row.

What does not

A grove under glass next to a working fire. Heat and soot are not a dome’s job.

Salt lamps on a narrow ledge. Towers at the walking corner.

The whole Home Guardian set. Five directions on a mantel look like a shop.

Heat

If the fireplace is used, keep stone off the firebox edge. Warm wood is fine. Hot brick is not. See the care post.

Leave a gap

Clock, frame, candlestick already live here. Add one crystal, not a second collection. The seasonal post covers swapping living-room pieces; this one is only the shelf above the fire.
